Key Terms Used in Kookabryn

The following terms appear throughout the platform interface, its documentation, and its support communications. Each is defined here in the context of how Kookabryn uses it.

Record
A single item that has been received by the platform, processed by the classification engine, and stored in the structured workspace. A record retains the original input in its unmodified form alongside the classification output applied to it. Records are the primary objects that users browse, filter, and review within the interface.
Category
A named group within the platform's organisational schema. Each record is assigned to one or more categories during classification. Categories are defined in advance and reflect the structure of the information the platform is intended to organise. Users cannot modify categories through the standard interface; changes to the category schema require a separate arrangement with the Kookabryn team.
Classification
The process by which an incoming item is examined and assigned to an appropriate category. Classification is performed by the platform's AI-assisted engine, which analyses the content, structure, and metadata of each item and applies a set of rules to determine the most suitable category assignment. Where the engine cannot determine a confident assignment, the record is flagged for manual review.
Classification Confidence
A measure of how certain the classification engine is that the category it has assigned to a record is the correct one. Records with high confidence appear in the workspace without any special indicator. Records with lower confidence are flagged, and the flag appears alongside the record in any view that includes it. Users are encouraged to verify flagged records before relying on their classification.
Schema
The set of categories, tags, and organisational rules that define how information is structured within the Kookabryn platform. The schema determines what classification options are available, how records are grouped, and what views are presented in the workspace. The schema is designed before records are processed and provides the framework within which the classification engine operates.
Tag
A descriptive label that can be applied to a record in addition to its primary category assignment. Tags are more granular than categories and allow users to mark records with additional attributes — for example, a status, a priority level, or a reference to a related subject. Tags can be used as filter criteria in the structured review views within the workspace.
Activity Log
A chronological record of actions taken within the Kookabryn workspace — including when records were received, classified, reviewed, tagged, or flagged. The activity log is available within the interface and provides a traceable history of how the information in the workspace has been handled over time.
Intake Layer
The component of the platform that receives incoming information before it reaches the classification engine. The intake layer identifies and prepares incoming items, confirming that they are in a format the classification engine can process. Items that cannot be processed are held for review and do not enter the classified record set until the issue is resolved.
Workspace
The user-facing environment in which classified records are presented and navigated. The workspace includes the main record views, the category navigation panel, search functionality, the activity log, and the access point for the enquiry channel. It is distinct from this informational website: the workspace is accessible only to users who have been extended access through the enquiry process.
Enquiry
A message submitted to the Kookabryn team through the enquiry form on the Enquire page. Enquiries are used for access requests, support questions, classification reviews, and general questions about the platform. Each enquiry is assigned a request type, which the platform's routing logic uses to direct the submission to the appropriate team member.
Access Request
A specific type of enquiry in which a user asks to be extended access to the Kookabryn workspace. Access requests are reviewed individually. Submitting a request does not commit the platform to extending access, and the team may request additional information or decline a request where it is not possible to proceed. Where access is extended, the arrangement is communicated by email.
Flagged Record
A record that the classification engine has identified as requiring human review — typically because its classification confidence falls below a defined threshold, or because the record's content is ambiguous across multiple categories. Flagged records remain in the workspace but are distinguished from confidently classified records so that users know to verify them before relying on their categorisation.
Broader Context

Understanding the Approach

Classification as a Layer

The classification Kookabryn applies to records is best understood as a structured layer placed on top of the original information. It does not alter what was received. It adds a navigable structure that makes the information easier to work with. The original input is always accessible alongside its classification, so users can verify the basis on which a record was categorised.

Workspace and Website

It is worth being clear about the distinction between this website and the Kookabryn workspace. This website — kookabryn.com — is an informational resource. It describes what the platform is and how to engage with it. The workspace is a separate environment that requires access. Terms used in this glossary apply to the workspace and its functions, not to this informational website.
